Mpontshane ready for new challenges

Newly signed Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Siyabonga Mpontshane, has said he hopes to do well in place of previous goalie, Senzo Meyiwa.

Pirates have been struggling in the goalkeeping department since October 2014, when Meyiwa was shot and killed.

However, the club hopes to have fixed the goalie issue with the mid-season signing of Mpontshane from Platinum Stars.

The 28-year-old has said that he is very excited about this opportunity and has readied himself for the challenges that may lie ahead.

"I’m very glad to have joined a club with rich history such as Orlando Pirates - I can’t explain how I feel," he said.

"I can say that I’m ready to face the club’s supporters, face the pressure of playing for a big club like the big three.

"Yes, one could say I’m here to actually work hard in ensuring the club doesn’t really feel the absence of the number one keeper (Meyiwa). However, that’s a huge responsibility because he was a great keeper but I’m ready to rise up and do my best to contribute to the success of the club."
