Mthatha K9 unit uncovers explosives after men arrested for business burglary


Explosives were found when the Mthatha K9 unit on Tuesday responded to a request from their Organised Crime colleagues to search the house of suspects arrested for business burglary.

"Constable Gwabavu utilized her K9 partner, Zeus, to search the premises. Zeus reacted uncovered explosives and connector cord that was hidden in the house," said Eastern Cape police.

"They continued searching the house and also found the hand drill and grinder that was used to commit the robbery.

"Two suspects were arrested for business robbery and possession of explosives and an explosive device."

The suspects will appear in court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, members of Mthatha K9 and Flying Squad recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol with 8 live rounds of ammunition as well as SAPS uniform trousers in a house at Ntshele location, in the town.

Police are still investigating.
