Mthatha police arrest three suspects allegedly enroute to commit a robbery

The Mthatha National Intervention Unit (NIU) on Thursday morning, at about 06:30, arrested three suspects, aged between 32 and 37 years, while they were allegedly enroute to commit a robbery.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Jackson  Manatha; "The arrests followed after police acted after receiving valuable information that the suspects were going to commit robbery at Butterworth.  

"All the suspects were arrested at Zitulele Industrial Area, Butterworth and were in possession of unlicensed firearms - two pistols, with seven rounds of ammunition. 

"They have been charged with possession of unlicensed fire-arms, possession of unlicensed  ammunition and conspiracy to commit robbery. The firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to establish whether they have been used earlier in the commission of crime around Butterworth and surrounding areas." 

Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Stanley Sibhidla commended Mthatha NIU for a job well done.

The three suspects will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate Court soon.
