Muck Run helps community

MARCH 8, 2016

The wackiest and most bizarre fun run in the Eastern Cape returns next month when The Edge Muck Run, sponsored by the Edge Financial Group, returns to Bushpig Adventures in Kragga Kamma on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April.

This ultimate un-timed fun mud and obstacle 5km event fun run allows one to let out the inner child as participants only need to bring a sense of humor…and a change of clothes.

With no special training or fitness required, the event attracts people from around the Province of all ages and widely varying skills and abilities from all walks of life.

Teams of runners (called “muckers”) have a blast slogging through mud and overcoming outrageous obstacles that see them crawling, climbing, rolling and sliding through the dirt and water.

"The Edge Muck Run kicks off the start of our exciting winter adventure racing program which this year includes the Town Lodge Business Night Relay, The Color Run, the Winter Triathlon Series, the Refreshhh Global Diabetes Walk, the Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run and the cities iconic Train Race," said race director Mike Zoetmulder of Zsports Events NPC, the Eastern Cape's only professional non-profit sports events company.

The Edge Muck Run has given obstacle racing in the Eastern Cape a whole new meaning. This fun event is not only about the muddy laughs and comraderie but also engages participants and spectators to help the community.

"Whilst this event is built for laughs, we are on a serious mission to assist the less fortunate with warm clothing and blankets this winter and have teamed up with the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth Sunrise on a clothing drive. The Muck Run appeals to all participants and spectators to start collecting unwanted clothing, bedding and blankets which they can donate, together with their dirty race kit, on race weekend. The general public can also get involved with this initiative by dropping off any unwanted clothing or bedding items into the Rotary Sunrise collection boxes at select Caltex stations in Port Elizabeth."

Zsports have teamed up with the Edge Financial Group to offer a fantastic schools initiative this year. Within each of the schools registered for this initiative, R1,000 cash will be awarded to the class with the most entries.

After getting dirty on the course, “muckers” get to enjoy the "Scrub Your Muck" clean-up station before heading over to the Muck Festival area for some food and refreshments. Whilst those of legal drinking age enjoy the castle lite beer garden the little muckers get to enjoy the kids play zone.

The event is open to individuals and teams of 5 and includes a Kids 3km Muck Run on the Saturday afternoon for children 12 years and under and two 5km options are available, one on the Saturday afternoon and the other on the Sunday morning.

Minimum age for the 5km route is 8 years of age but all children under the age of 10 years must be accompanied at all times by an adult. Discounted entry is offered for teams and dress up is encouraged. There is also a special for those wanting to take part on both days. See www.MuckRun.co.za for further information and online registration.
