Veteran Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has taken over the position of African Union (AU) Chairman for the next 12 month. The 90-year old statesman officially took over from Mauritanian leader, Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz, at the AU Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, earlier today.

“By electing me to preside over this august body, with full knowledge of the onerous responsibility that lies ahead, I humbly accept your collective decision,” Sky News quoted him as saying after being elected.
