Nelson Mandela Bay Metro advertises for a Special Programmes Executive Director

Nelson Mandela Bay has advertised the position of Executive Director: Special Programmes following a decision by the Mayoral Committee not to disband the directorate.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate “a sophisticated knowledge of the “space economy” of the Eastern Cape and the metro in particular” looking at projects that will improve the capacity of the city’s infra-structure to cope with growth and future development demands”.

One of the functions of the ED will be to coordinate and facilitate the “forging of strategic partnerships” between the municipality, other spheres of government, the private sectors, NGOs, CBOs and donor communities “in the rendering of public services related to urban renewal and township revitalisation”.

In addition the person appointed will be required to conduct fundraising with government departments, the private sector, state-owned enterprises and donor communities “for the implementation of strategic projects”.

He/she will also have to ensure that hot spots are “attended to timeously and managed properly,” and plan and implement Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects.

The successful candidate will also be required to develop an “economically and financially sound business plan aimed at attracting financial institutions to invest in the sustainable development of the metro”.

In addition, he/she will also assume responsibility for poverty alleviation programmes.

An item included in the Council agenda for its April 7 meeting recommended that the decision to disband the directorate taken previously should be rescinded, with City Manager Mpilo Mbambisa authorised to advertise the post of executive director. - MetroMinutes
