Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality adds more staff at customer care centres

NOVEMBER 10, 2016

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Wednesday said that it has deployed additional staff members to Customer Care Centres across the Metro to assist with the influx of customers, which will improve efficiency and significantly reduce waiting times.

"Three more staff members have been assigned to customer care centres in Uitenhage and Despatch to assist with the increased inflow of customers in those communities," the municipality said.

"Strict debt control measures came into effect on the 1st November 2016 in an effort to recover some of the R2 billion owed to the Municipality by residents and businesses.

"Once recovered, this money will go towards improving service delivery and growing the economy to create jobs."

It added that these measures have seen a large number of customers visit the Municipality’s customer care centres in the affected areas to settle outstanding accounts.

"Naturally, with the introduction of any new system and the consequent response, glitches are bound to be experienced and the municipality has been on high alert to adequately respond to such challenges.

"This is one way of realising our goal to improve efficiency by repositioning the metro through improved operations, all in the interest of taking this Metro forward," the municipality said.

"As your elected government, we have been monitoring the situation to ensure that our response time is improved and that people are attended to on time. Corrective measures have been put in place to prevent further interruptions."

Currently, with a staff complement of 12 operators, our call centre is now attending to 96.3% of all calls, indicating improved responsiveness.

Furthermore, the Metro has published the after-hour contact details on the NMBM Facebook and Website for ease of reference for customers. For reconnection, people should contact (041) 506 1442 or send an email to [email protected]

"We thank the residents of this Metro for working with us as we take this Municipality forward."
