Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality working towards accelerated housing delivery

JUNE 22, 2015

In a post on a local blog, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says it is working towards accelerated housing delivery as Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan, is expected to open a developer’s workshop at 09h30 on Monday, which runs until tomorrow at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

"The Minister of Human Settlements Lindiwe Sisulu will on Tuesday, 23 June 2015, sign a service level agreement with the Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements Helen Sauls-August and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor Danny Jordaan in a bid to fast track housing delivery in the region," the municipality said in the post.

"This will be preceded by a two-day workshop for contractors at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality following an undertaking made by the Minister Sisulu at a meeting held with this sector earlier this month. Media are welcome to attend and cover this important interaction.

"The developer’s workshop will outline a programmatic and institutional alignment, realign current programme, initiatives and policies aimed at contractor or Small Medium and Micro Enterprise development and participation in response to the need to accelerate housing delivery within the Metro."

It said that Cabinet in April approved a package of assistance for the Metro that will see the Housing Development Agency (HDA) becoming an implementing agent to speed up housing delivery over the next three years.
