Nelson Mandela Bay reservoirs drop to 84.35%
According to data released on Tuesday by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, the Metro's reservoirs, which started the year at an average 100% full, had now dropped to an average of 84.35%.
The Loerie dam (the smallest dam), which had recorded the biggest drop to 24.95%, started filling up to 27.9% last week and to 36.5% this week. Loerie dam was virtually full at the start of the year. Last year,around this time, it was 58.8% full. Below is the latest figures;

- Koega dam: 78.71% (was 80.1% last week)
- Churchill dam: 83.35% (no data from last week)
- Impofu dam: 92.27% (was 92.8% last week)
- Loerie dam: 36.5% (was 27.9% last week)
- Groendal dam: 88.83% (was 89.9% last week)
- Average all: 84.35 %
Local residents are encouraged to do all they can to conserve water and to report leaks to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality as experts have warned of a general water crisis facing the country as a whole.

Elsewhere in the Eastern Cape, there are mixed fortunes with some dams drying out and others holding on.
Combined, all provincial dams are 74.3% full (last year, at this time, was 75.8%).
