New Opel Corsa debuts
General Motors South Africa has officially unveiled the all-new fifth generation Opel Corsa set to go on sale next month. Known by its internal designation as the Corsa E, the newcomer replaces the near on eight year old Corsa D and will be available at launch in three models with a single engine and transmission choice.
Featuring styling cues, inside and outside, from the marque’s recently launched Adam boutique hatch, the Corsa will initially be sold only as a five-door with all models making use of the same 1.0-litre three cylinder turbocharged EcoFlex petrol engine, with stop/start, that debuted in the Adam.
Replacing the previous 1.4-litre four cylinder mill, the new three pot produces 85 kW and 170 N.m of torque and sends its power through the front-wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Although no performance or fuel economy figures had yet been made, European figures indicates a top speed of 195 km/h, 0-100 km/h in just over 10.0 seconds and a combined consumption figure of 5.0 L/100 km, with the taxable emissions rating below the 120 g/km threshold at 117 g/km.
Spec-wise, the base Essentia features front electric windows, 15-inch steel wheels, daytime-running lights with headlight levelling function, electric folding mirrors, City Mode steering, Hill Start Assist, ABS with EBD and ESP, six airbags and adjustable steering wheel.
Moving one up, the Enjoy adds a six-speaker sound system with CD/USB/Aux input, air-conditioning, steering wheel mounted audio controls, LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and colour coding for the doors and mirrors.
Rounding off the range, the Cosmo features cornering Bi-Xenon headlights, cruise control, auto lighting, rain sensing wipers, leather covered steering wheels, handbrake lever and gear knob, chrome detailing, graphite black cloth seats and Opel’s Intellilink seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with pre-load apps for Stitcher, TuneIn and BringGo navigation.
A five year / 100 000 km warranty and three year / 60 000 km service plan is standard on all models.
