New poll predicts DA to win Nelson Mandela Bay and Tshwane

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is reportedly set to take control away from the African National Congress (ANC) in two of the country’s hotly contested Metro’s according to a new poll.

Based on the feedback from South Africans aged 18-50 from all demographics and racial groups, the findings by research giant Ipsos and eNCA has shown that the party would inherent the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and City of Tshwane with Johannesburg still being contested.

Expected to regain control of the City of Cape Town, the results shows the party leading in Tshwane with 41% versus the ANC’s 26%, and in Nelson Mandela Bay with 44% compared to the ruling party’s 30%. Although leading in Johannesburg with 36% in response the ANC’s 32%, the small margin leaves the Metro undecided.

The poll also showed that support for smaller parties had continued to wain in recent weeks with a drop from 2.9% to 2.4%, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and those undecided could be left with the casting decision in determining a new mayor for Johannesburg and Tshwane.

  • EFF: 5.94%
  • Undecided: 11.25%
