New update on the Manufacturing Competitiveness Enhancement Programme (MCEP)

The Manufacturing Competitiveness Enhancement Programme (MCEP) was suspended in October 2015. Some indication was provided at the time that a revised incentive may be launched into the future.

Three weeks ago the Director General of the Department of Trade & Industry (the dti), Mr Lionel October, indicated that there could be a new incentive programme available soon to replace MCEP.

A Business Day article published recently reported that the dti redesigned its MCEP in order to target strategic sectors, with an expectation to roll the programme out in the new financial year (which starts on 1 April 2017).  According to the article, priority will be given to labour-intensive sectors of agro processing and agriculture, as well as downstream manufacturers in the metals sector.

Our offices have successfully assisted a number of manufacturing businesses to access the MCEP benefits in the past and can provide very valuable advice against a competitive performance based fee structure.

Please contact our regional office to share your investment plans so that your business can take advantage of this expected incentive:
