New vehicle sales continue to slump in April


The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has record another drop in the sales of new vehicle for April, although exports registered a significant improvement.

Aggregate total domestic sales for the month fell by 9.2% from 44 469 unit last year, to 40 390 examples this year. Individual segments were also down with new passenger vehicles sales falling 13.2% from 30 026 to 26 077, while light commercial vehicles posted a marginal decline of 0.1% from last year’s 12 192 to 12 210.

Decreases were also posted in the sales of medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles, with the market dropping by 24.3% and 5.3% respectively. Exports however bounced back with a significant 39.2% increase from last year’s 23 602 units, to 32 856.
