New WSU Chancellor Announced

APRIL 28, 2015

WSU will for the first time get to see its new Chancellor perform one of her most important duties as she’s set to cap over 4 000 graduands during the institution’s April/May graduation ceremonies.

Following its quarterly meeting at the Potsdam Site at the Buffalo City Campus on Friday 24 April, the University Council formerly announced Sheila M Sisulu, first female ambassador to the US, as the institution’s incumbent Chancellor.

The Council, following the resignation of former Chairperson Prof Lourens van Staden, also announced its new head, high court judge Nambitha Dambuza. She will be deputised by East London IDZ CEO Simphiwe Khondlo.

“WSU welcomes the appointment of Ambassador Sisulu and wishes her the best in her new position. We pledge our full support to the new Chancellor and trust that she will exhibit impeccable leadership in steering the University to greener pastures,” said Acting WSU Spokesperson Thando Cezula.
