Police in East London have opened an investigation after a new-born baby was found in the bushes near Gonubie, in East London, on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, a Gonubie community member lost his cat and asked his gardener to look for it in the bushes close to her house.

“While the Gardner was looking for the cat he heard a cry of a baby and found a new born baby boy wrapped in a refuse plastic bag with his receiving blanket,” described Warrant Officer, Hazel Mqala.

She added that he ran back to the house and informed his employer, who called the police Netcare and municipality patrollers to the scene.

“The baby was admitted to Frere Hospital for examinations,” added Warrant Officer Mqala.

She concluded that an enquiry has been opened at Gonubie police.
