Ngqamakhwe police on Friday morning arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Tyinirha Village, Ngqamakhwe.

It is alleged that the victim went to the house of the suspect, who is her neighbour, to fetch her book in order to study and prepare for the current Matric examinations.

According to the police, the victim had been left under the guardianship of the suspect as her mother is in Johannesburg.

“The victim went to the house of the suspect on Thursday, at about 19:00, and the suspect is alleged to have accosted the victim and raped her as he is also staying alone,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the suspect has been charged with rape and will appear before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate's Court on Monday.
