Ngqamakhwe rapist sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

21-year-old, Samkelo Tshayisa, was convicted and sentenced by the Tsomo Regional Court on Monday 1st February after being found guilty for raping a 75-year-old woman.

The victim was walking alone on 24th May 2015 in Dudumashe Village, Ngqamakhwe, when the accused grabbed her from behind, strangled her and then raped her.

The accused was then chased by community members and arrested. A case of rape was opened at Ngqamakhwe Police Station.

He pleaded guilty at court and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. The case was formally investigated by Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences.
