Nigeria names new 23-man squad for AFCON qualifiers
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has announced the team that will be competing in the first two qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 23-man squad have been chosen despite Nigeria not having a coach. There have, however, been talks with former coach Stephen Keshi to return to the helm of the team.
"It is right for us to alert the players and their clubs," NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire told BBC Sport.
Nigeria will be facing the Congo on their home field on the 6th of September, and will then travel to South Africa where they will compete against Bafana Bafana at the Cape Town Stadium on September 10th.
The 23-man squad will be featuring World Cup players such as Vincent Enyeama, Ogneyi Onazi and Ahmed Musa.
"These are crucial games and qualifying for the African Cup of Nations is the focus right now because defending the African title starts in September with the qualifiers,” added Olajire
