Nine-year-old girl with a big heart hosts fundraiser for the ill

BY NATALI IVERSON - OCTOBER 16, 2015

Starting community work from a young age, a nine-year-old Port Elizabeth girl, Tara Weise, will be hosting a high tea event themed - ‘Denim and Diamonds’ at the Topdeck Venue, along Lakeside Road, in Kragga Kamma on the 24th of October, in order to raise funds for the St Francis Hospice.

Tara said that the fundraiser came about when she discovered her mom was doing a similar project at her workplace and so she asked her mom what a fundraiser was all about.

“My mom told me that it was all about helping people who needed help, so I decided to do a fundraiser to help other people,” Tara told RNews.

“I chose St Francis because a lot of my relations went there, and I was looking for a place that really needed help and Hospice really does.”

Tara has brought in her mother, Tracy, and her grandmother, Judy, to help her with the project.

The three ladies have been busy organising the high tea, finding sponsors, doing the fundraising and selling the tickets.

With the theme ‘Denim and Diamonds’, Tara said she thought that it would be fun for her 55 guests, who are attending, to dress up for the occasion.

Tara said that the ‘Denims and Diamonds’ high tea will be having a great guest speaker and lucky draw prizes. Those attending can also enjoy some tea and delicious snacks.

“We have some nice sponsors, such as Solid Pave, Market Square Volkswagen, Elephant Walk and Blue Waters Café, and Urmila Soni from BDLS Attorneys, who as sponsored some vouchers, and more,” Tara explained.
