JUNE 27, 2016

The Public Relations Institute of South Africa (PRISA) has presented Pieter Swart – Director of Marketing & Corporate Relations at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University – with the 2016 PRISA President’s Award for outstanding service to the profession.

“It was a most deserved recognition of what Pieter has done for our profession over the last 32 years,” said PRISA outgoing President, Lorraine van Schalkwyk.

The award was made in recognition of Swart’s 30-plus years’ service excellence to the higher education sector and for the mentoring role he has played in the profession.

Previous recipients of the prestigious award include, among others, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela (2014), former Services SETA CEO Ivor Blumenthal (2011) and politician and journalist Sej Motau (2007).

The award was made during the institute’s Annual General Meeting on 23 June, after which Swart delivered the keynote address.

Founded in 1986, the President’s Award is awarded at the PRISA President's sole discretion to recognise exceptional service and contribution to the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa by a member of the Institute.

Swart is also a lifetime member of the national organisation, Marketing, Advancement & Communication in Education (MACE) and has also received the MACE President’s Award in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the sector.
