NMMU wins top communications awards

NOVEMBER 18, 2014

When it comes to publications, social media, video production, branding and integrated campaigns, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) is the best in the country.

The University won the inaugural Severus Cerff Award in recognition for outstanding performance among practitioners in higher and further education after winning the most awards in the annual Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Excellence Awards in Sun City last week.

NMMU won 18 awards – the top award, eight excellence awards and nine merit awards – for their work in promoting the University via various platforms.

The University’s new television advertisement – Turning dreamers into doers, its integrated brand campaign brand to expose NMMU to markets outside of the Eastern Cape, its YouTube videos of its values student ambassadors and several publications were among those entries to score 80% or higher to attain an excellence award.

The university received high praise from sponsor, Dr Riaan Els, CEO of the Fuchs Foundation.

“This is how it is done. This is how you ‘lead the pack’,” Dr Els shared at the function held at the Lost Palace.

NMMU has performed consistently well in the national awards over the past five years, but this is the first year that an overall award has been made, following the untimely death of a founder of the professional body established 25 years ago.

A delighted head of Marketing and Corporate Relations at NMMU Mr Pieter Swart had high praise for his team.

“The MCR Team at NMMU are high achievers, creatively setting trends and stretching the boundaries to grow the brand of our university. This is acknowledged through the awards and I am proud to be a part of this dynamic team. Boomtown Strategic Brand Agency also contributes a great deal to this success.”
