No load shedding tonight: Eskom

JUNE 2, 2015

Residents can breathe a sigh of relief as Eskom has again announced that it will not be load shedding this evening - this will be the fifth consecutive day of no load shedding. The news comes when adverse weather warnings were issued by the SA Weather Services after heavy rains and wind lashed the Western and Eastern Cape since Sunday.

Eskom has adequate generating capacity to meet the demand in electricity, it said in a statement. The parastatal however, expects the power system to be constrained during the evening peak period (5pm – 9pm), mainly due to increased electricity demand.

“We urge all customers to continue using electricity sparingly at all times to enable the technicians to carry out the requisite maintenance of our power generating units.”

Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, are also urged to switch off non-essential lights and not leave office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours.

“As the evening temperatures begin to drop, we urge electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm.”
