No morning blackouts: Eskom

JULY 30, 2015

Eskom on Thursday that it did not expect to implement load shedding in the morning as the electricity system was stable.

“The power system is currently stable, enabling Eskom to perform maintenance without load shedding,” the power utility said in a statement.

However, Eskom said due to increased electricity demand in the evening and power stations’ units being on maintenance, the power system was expected to be constrained during the evening peak period (5pm – 9pm).

The utility urged electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm, as the country was experiencing cold weather conditions.

“In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times. We appeal to all our customers to continue to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day but to be aware of the need to save more during the peak periods from 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.”

Eskom implemented stage 1 loadshedding on Wednesday from 5pm until 10pm.
