No Potchefstroom Ebola Case: Department of Health

BY TAI CHISHAKWE - OCTOBER 9, 2014

The Department of Health has denied reports that a man is being treated for symptoms of Ebola at Potchefstroom Hospital.

On Wednesday, OFM News reported that a ward at the hospital was under quarantine because of a suspected Ebola patient.

Department of Health Spokesperson, Joe Maila, did confirm that a 72-year-old man is being treated for a high fever but maintains his condition has nothing to do with the deadly virus.

“What we know is that a person came into the hospital with fever and this person has never been outside of South Africa," said Maila.

"Therefore it is unlikely that you can look at the possibilities of Ebola. However, the doctors are doing all they know what to do to make sure that they diagnose what is the problem with the patient.”

Meanwhile, OFM News said it had spoken to various sources at the hospital who confirmed an Ebola case at Potchefstroom Hospital.
