No reports of protest action along PE-Uitenhage Road

SEPTEMBER 10, 2015

There have not been reports of protests along the Port Elizabeth Uitenhage road on Thursday morning after police and residents fought running battles on Wednesday.

The protesters had barricaded a section on the road between Dora Nginza hospital and the NMMU's Missionvale campus with stones and rubble - disrupting morning traffic between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage.

When police opened that road, the protesters moved to the old Missionvale and had demanded that Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan, who was celebrating his first 100 days since he assumed office, comes and addresses their grievances.

The same protesters had been dispersed by Port Elizabeth police on Monday morning and Tuesday morning along the same road.
