Police in Jeffreys Bay are mourning the death of one of their colleagues, who was shot dead on Thursday morning at about 06:40am in Strelitzia Street, Jeffreys Bay.

According to Eastern Cape police, it is believed that the 36 year-old female constable was off-duty when she was involved in a heated argument with her security guard husband.

"Shots were heard and police were summoned to the scene.

"On arrival police found both victims with gunshot wounds and both were declared dead on the scene," the police said.

"Jeffreys Bay police are investigating a case of murder and an inquest. The names of the deceased will be released after their next-of-kin were informed of their death."

The Cluster Commander of Humansdorp, Brigadier Neil Jantjies said: “We are still in shock and very sad about the loss of our own member under very tragic circumstances.

"We express our  deepest condolences to their families, friends and colleagues.  Our hearts go out to their loved ones and we will remember them in our prayers.”

Early this month, another off-duty female Constable was gunned down in Port Elizabeth's Motherwell township under unclear circumstances.
