One Stop Center built for Lady Frere community

The Honourable MEC for Roads and Public Works, Ms. Thandiswa Marawu, together with Emalahleni Local Municipality will officially open the Lady Frere One Stop Centre on the 18th August.

The Lady Frere One stop Centre was constructed due to shortage of Government office space and bringing government services closer to the people.

This one stop center is situated in the edge of the central business district .The building of this complex assisted the community of Lady Frere to get services in a one stop shop.

The scope of the work for the project included construction of new office building for different government departments. The project was implemented into three phases over a period of six years.

Phase one started in November 2007 and ended in October 2008 and the scope included fencing, site works and construction of guardhouses. The total cost for phase one was R6,3 million and job opportunities were created for local people.

Phase two started in June 2008 and was competed in June 2009 and the scope of the work included construction of a new office block for the Department of Agriculture. The total cost for the project was R17, 2 million and job opportunities were created for local people.

Phase three started in July 2011 and was completed in November 2013 and the scope of the work included the construction of a new office building for the Department of Education. The total cost of the project was at R52 million.

The infrastructure delivery strategy of the Department has not only helped client departments but has led to the creation of hundreds of jobs over a period of six years for the community of Emalahleni coupled with the aesthetic improvement of Emalahleni Local Municipality area, particularly the town of  Lady Frere.

“It is within our mandate to ensure that Government Departments are afforded quality office accommodation and that services are brought closer to the communities for better service delivery.” said the ecstatic MEC, Thandiswa Marawu.
