Oscar’s parole likely to be discussed today

The parole board of the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Facility is reportedly expected to consider the case of jailed Paralympian Oscar Pistorius today.

Eyewitness News reports that Pistorius’ lawyer, Andrew Fawcett, was quoted as saying that no official confirmation had been received from the department, but that they expect the matter to be tabled today.

On Monday, the department announced that the decision to release Pistorius had been set aside and referred back to the board for consideration. He was also ordered to undergo psychotherapy treatment to address the factors relating to the killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day 2013.

In a subsequent statement, Pistorius’ family accused the department of infringing on his constitutional rights, and keeping them in the dark as to when he is expected to be released in order to serve the remainder of his sentence under correctional supervision.
