OUT ON BUSINESS: My Pond Hotel is the perfect home for travelling businessmen
It is always exciting to see how many of South Africa’s tourism-dependent coastal towns have bounced back from near-collapse during the last recession and are managing to reinvent themselves as serious business centres. One such town is Port Alfred.
Once a sleepy tourism village, there is visible evidence that the town means business. New and impressive suburbs have risen to the west, a vibrant large shopping mall has opened on the outskirts of the town – there is activity everywhere!
However, while most major suppliers to the town still operate from bases in faraway East London or Port Elizabeth, there are only a few lodges in the area that truly cater specifically to the needs of the travelling business executive.
Among them is the newly-developed 4-Star My Pond Hotel, which Business Link Magazine found beautifully set on the banks of the Kowie River and just off Main Street, on a recent business tour to the area.
The boutique hotel offers elegant accommodation options in Riverside and Classic suites. Your correspondent found the rooms neat, stylish and having all standard amenities including a double bed, tea/coffee station, Wi-Fi internet access, DSTV, a safe and desk. En-suite, full bathrooms completed the offering.
Since My Pond is part of the world-famous Mantis Collection and is operated by Stenden South Africa’s prestigious Hotel Management School, my expectations were exceeded when it came to excellent service and warm hospitality. The staff were very efficient, helpful and professional.
My Pond’s Lily Restaurant can safely be considered Port Alfred’s best. Neatly laid out in an open-plan format and tastefully-decorated, the restaurant and bar area is comfortable, minimalistic and sophisticated.
Here you can sample the Lily’s buffet breakfasts as well as their contemporary lunch and dinner menu of wholesome foods called ‘The New South African Cuisine’. The lounge and dining room open on to a veranda which lies a few meters from the banks of the Kowie River.
Travelling executives who do not want to conduct meetings in crowded restaurants can utilise My Pond’s trendy and private Kowie Cabin Boardroom which can seat up to eight people. There is also a fully-equipped, modern Conference room which can accommodate up to 80 delegates.
For your relaxation, you can enjoy sundowners at the hotel’s swimming pool or venture out to explore the countless attractions and activities that make Port Alfred a popular holiday destination.
I can highly recommend My Pond Hotel to any executive who has to sleepover in Port Alfred. For bookings and enquiries, you can call 046 624 4626 or visit mypondhotel.com today.
