Over 100 arrested for various crimes over the past weekend in Uitenhage

Uitenhage police officers continued to clamp down on criminal activities over the past weekend - from Friday, until early on Monday morning. A total of 108 suspects were arrested on various charges in the process. 

"These arrests include murder, robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods," described police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"15 Suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of drugs and nine persons were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor. A total of 31traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R15 500."

Captain Swart said that the South African Police Service wants to encourage the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime and they appeal to the community to provide valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects.
