Pakistan: Violence in Islamabad as pressure mounts on PM to resign


Protests resumed in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Monday morning following a weekend marked with as protesters wielding sticks and throwing stones clashing with police in the centre of the capital.

The new escalation follows weeks of demonstrations in the capital as demonstrators demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation.

On Monday morning, despite heavy rain, crowds of protesters tried to break through police lines to push their way to the prime minister's residence, prompting Pakistani police to fire teargas.
