PE ambulance crew robbed at gunpoint


The Eastern Cape Department of Health has condemned a series of robberies on two ambulances in Port Elizabeth this morning.

Speaking to News24, department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said the crew of the first ambulance were called to Madala Street in New Brighton at 00:20 on Wednesday, where after two suspects lured them into an alley allegedly to transport a patient.

Kupelo said the men were then threatened at gun point with the robbers also making off with the ambulance’s key moments later.

“A spare key was later used. I'm also told an hour later a private ambulance was also robbed," Kupelo said, without revealing any further details.

The ambulance personal were said to be receiving counselling for stress with police still searching for the suspects.
