PE Harbour Tanker Berth Operations Suspended For Emergency Operations

In a statement released on Thursday, Transnet National Ports Authority said that it has deemed it necessary to temporarily suspend operations at the Port of Port Elizabeth’s Tanker Berth.

Transnet National Ports Authority said that the decision was made based on the need to conduct emergency repairs to the facility and was done in consultation with the oil companies involved at the Tanker Berth - and in the interest of operational safety.

The authority said that a contractor is already on site and the Tanker Berth is envisaged to be back in operation on Monday 8 December 2014.

Affected oil companies have said that they have contingency plans in place to ensure continuity of supply.

Port of Port Elizabeth Port Manager, Rajesh Dana said; “Transnet National Ports Authority together with the oil companies will continue to ensure that the Port of Port Elizabeth’s Liquid Bulk Terminal remains safe for efficient cargo operations until the commissioning of the Tank Farm in the Port of Nqura in 2019.”
