PE man returns to court for attempted murder of wife

Martin Stevens (47) is expected a return in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates court on Thursday, for being accused of stabbing his wife several times last year October.

Stevens, from Algoa Park in Port Elizabeth, is facing charges of attempted murder, after the alleged stabbing of his estranged wife, Anna-Marie Stevens. The stabbing incident took place outside her friend’s flat.

After being on the run following the alleged incident, the accused later handed himself over to the police.

According to reports, 15 years ago Stevens killed his ex-wife, Hettie, and her friend, Colin Rosslee, before attempting to commit suicide by turning the gun on himself.

At the time, the court found that Stevens had suffered a psychotic episode and was discharged of the double murder.

At his most recent court appearance in March, Stevens’ lawyer indicated that his client was still awaiting vacancy at the Fort England Psychiatric Hospital.
