PE police swiftly arrest 39 year-old alleged hijacker, accomplices on the run

A 39 year-old suspect is expected in a Port Elizabeth court soon after he was swiftly arrested for armed vehicle hijacking in Swartkops on Wednesday.

Port Elizabeth police said; "A 63 year-old man was allegedly hijacked yesterday [Wednesday] morning in Swartkops while doing deliveries.

"According to police information, at about 06:55, the driver was delivering meat when he was approached by three men.

"The driver was shot in his leg and the suspects got into the truck with the driver and drove off. The customer, who witnessed the incident contacted the company concerned, who immediately alerted police."

SAPS Bethelsdorp members spotted the truck passing them on the Kleinskool road.

"A chase ensued and the hijackers abandoned the truck in Westville Heights in Kwadwesi," police said.

"The suspects fled into nearby bushes. One suspect was arrested while the other two escaped."
