PE’s favourite fair offers fun for the whole family

BY SUPPLIED - MAY 20, 2015

Cabaret, karate, big-screen rugby, fairground rides, live music and even an outing for the family pets ensure entertainment for every member of the family at the popular annual Priory Fair next Saturday, 30 May.

In addition to the evergreen favourites – the legendary book stall, the cake stall groaning with homemade treats, the plant stall for garden-lovers and the ‘white elephant’ for hunters of bargains and treasures – this year’s Fair also features a fun dog walk and dog show, karate demonstration and performances by the St Dominic’s Priory jazz and marimba bands.

Well-known as a great outing for the whole family, the annual Fair at the St Dominic’s Priory school grounds in Godlonton Avenue, Miramar, has been running since 1989, attracting record crowds of approximately 15 000 in recent years.

The Fair has grown beyond its Saturday time-slot and this year’s festivities kick off on the Friday night with the Centrestage show ‘Rock ‘n Roll Comedy Madhouse’ at Priory, featuring the madcap musician-comedian duo of local favourite Gino Fabbri and well-known impersonator of Elvis and many others, Danny Fisher.

On the Saturday morning, the fun dog walk of about 3km starts the day at 07.00 (registration from 06.30-07.00), with the dog show running from 09.00 (registration from 08.00-08.50) through to mid-morning, in categories for best puppy, golden oldie, pedigrees, cross-breeds, rescue dogs and more. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Animal Welfare Society.

The Fair starts in earnest after the official opening at 09.00, with all the stalls open for business, a wide variety of eats on offer, fairground rides and attractions for the youngsters and young-at-heart, and the beer tent where Super Rugby will be on the big screens later in the day.

The GoldenDreams stage will provide entertainment from some favourite singers throughout the day, interspersed with some of the city’s favourite local entertainers, demonstrations and school going musicians.

Entry to the Fair is free. Parking is available on the school grounds. Contact the school on 041 396 2800 for more information or visit www.priory.co.za.
