PE weather office warns of strong winds and possibility of fires


The Port Elizabeth branch of the South African Weather Service has issued a warning for strong winds as well as the possibility of veld fires in certain parts of the Eastern Cape.

In a statement, weather office spokesperson, Garth Sampson, said gale force westerly winds of up to 70 km/h can be expected between Cape St. Francis and Port Elizabeth till 11h00.

Cloudy weather is expected for the rest of Tuesday with rain possible come Thursday.

He also added that an advisory for hot and windy conditions, which could lead to fires, has been issued for the Northern and Central parts of the province.
