PIN-DOWN: Enjoy fun family outings at Lighthouses Tenpin Bowling
Whenever I recall my years studying in Port Elizabeth, I often find myself reminiscing about the fun times I had ten pin bowling with friends at Lighthouses Tenpin Bowling in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth. So, with my old friends, I recently decided to venture down memory lane and see if I still had my skills.
We arrived at the Lighthouses and gave our names to one of their friendly staff members to add onto the leaderboard. As our names were typed in, I noticed on a nearby poster that they now also offer Kids Ten Pin Bowling parties, which includes a kiddie’s party pack, a cool drink and bowling of course.
Bowling is a sport for every family member - there was a mix of kids, teenagers, young people, married couples and even senior citizens having a good time out when we arrived. But it requires a fair amount of skill and not just pure luck, yet some of us could not resist the urge to brag about their immense skills and abilities.
For the next hour or so, we used all sorts of techniques, intentionally or by accident, in trying to outdo one another. One person ended up throwing the ball over his head and another fell flat on his face but most of us managed to roll the ball gracefully down the ally – it’s what makes bowling fun.
A bit tired and thirsty, we decided to take a break and visited the Lighthouses’ fully-stocked bar and with drinks in hand the fun and madness resumed…
Unfortunately, in the end, I did not win like I had so strongly declared. But, I had had so much fun that it really did not matter. Our friendly game had also finished just in time for us to watch a rugby match on their big screen. The crowd was awesome and the atmosphere was electric!
We concluded the night by playing a game of pool on one of their 14 pool tables. At only R3 a game, we could not resist playing until we had one undisputed pool champion. It was a memorable night and we decided that this was only the first of many more ten pin bowling nights to come.
I also found the Lighthouses ideal for parties, team building, private or corporate events, watching sports or just having a good time out. For functions, there is even a karaoke option.
