Pokémon GO officially released in South Africa

Ever since its release Pokémon GO, a mobile game created by Niantic, has made headlines and rocketed to popularity with over a million downloads – but it was not officially available for South African gamers.

Pokémon GO is a popular game where the player walks around their own town to find and capture pocket monsters, aka Pokémon, and fight with other Pokémon in Gyms in order to gain achievements and become ‘The Greatest Pokémon Master of all’.

The game utilises the player’s camera and GPS on their mobile device and allows them to find and capture Pokémon in the real world.

Some people had already acquired the game through an APK download file, due to their impatience for the official release to finally be available in their country.

On Wednesday, the Pokémon GO Facebook group announced that the game had finally been released in not only South Africa, but in most African countries.
