Police appeal for leads after Chatty woman and her 3-year-old daughter found brutally battered

Police in Bethelsdorp are seeking the public's assistance after a 47-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter were found brutally battered in their house in Chatty, Booysens Park, Port Elizabeth, over the weekend.

"It is alleged that on Saturday, at about 18:00, concerned neighbour’s went to the victim’s house and when she did not respond to their knock on the door, they entered," described police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci

"They found the mother and daughter with multiple head injuries.

"At this stage, motive for the brutal attack is unknown and a case of attempted murder is being investigated by SAPS Bethelsdorp Detectives."

The mother and daughter were taken to hospital.

The Acting Cluster Commander for Mount Road Cluster, Brig Keith Meyer, has condemned such an attack and added "as South Africans, we have an obligation to report violence and abuse.   As we observe Chid Protection Week we need to reinforce the duty of everyone in the protection of children from violence, exploitation and abuse."
