Police blitz targets KwaNobuhle's illegal alcohol brewing dens

JANUARY 8, 2016

A police blitz targeting KwaNobuhle, in Port Elizabeth, yielded successes on Friday. About 210 litres of illegal liquor, valued at over R7 000, were seized from a local shebeen while a total of  700 litres of an illegal alcoholic concoction were also destroyed from three houses that were found brewing it.

"A 51 year-old shebeen owner was fined for operating a tavern without a licence.

"The operation was planned after information was received from local residents that certain houses in KwaNobuhle were operating either as concoction brewers or illegal taverns," Port Elizabeth police said.

"It is heart-pleasing to see residents getting involved in fighting illegal liquor outlets, as most houses identified were not known by the police to be brewing concoction in KwaNobuhle."
