Dutywa police are investigating murder case after a 10 year-old Siziphiwe Mbizo’s body was found in Mnyameni River, near Qeqe Location, in Bolotwa Village, Dutywa, on Monday afternoon.

According to the police, the discovery of her body came after she went missing on Friday night at her home and the grandmother reported her missing the next day.

“The Mthatha K9 Unit responded and a search led to the discovery of the girl’s body in the river,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that, it is not clear whether the girl was sexually assaulted or not, but police are investigating.

It is alleged that, the deceased was left by her mother, aged 28 years-old, on Friday, at about 19:30 as she was visiting her boyfriend.

“It is not clear at this point in time whether the child followed her mother or was abducted,” said Captain Manatha.

However, the mother came back on Sunday, only to be told that her child was missing.

“The postmortem will reveal if the deceased was sexually assaulted and no visible injuries were found on the body of the deceased,” said Captain Manatha.

Police are appealing to anyone, who may have information about the incident, to contact Dutywa police on 047 489 1333 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 as no one has been arrested yet.
