Police laud Operation Lockdown successes in July

Port Elizabeth police have confirmed the arrest of 93 suspects and seizure of 23 firearms as part of Operation Lockdown during July.

In statement, police said it also confiscated 253 rolls of dagga and 1 667 g loose pieces, 688 mandrax tablets, 152 tik packets and 162 tik pipes and 6 284 schedule five tablets, as well as R36 988 in cash. Five suspects wanted in connection with charges ranging from murder to the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, were also jailed by the Gang Task Team during the month.

“The community has constantly expressed their appreciation to the SAPS for working tirelessly towards making sure that the Northern areas are once again safe,” statement read.

“Despite various attacks on police such as stone throwing and damage to vehicles by some members of the community, the police remain resolute in their quest to ensure that peace and stability remain in these areas”.
