Police say arrest imminent after 68-year-old Butterworth woman raped

Butterworth police are investigating a case of rape after a 68-year-old woman was attacked at a local forest.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, the victim had gone to the forest to collect firewood on Thursday, at about 09:00, at Mgomanzi Village, Butterworth, when the inicdent happened.

"The suspect followed her to the forest pretending to be collecting fire wood as well," he said.

"It is alleged that he borrowed an axe from the victim.

"He then allegedly threatened the victim with the same axe. He overpowered the victim and allegedly raped her."

Captain Manatha said that the suspect is expected to be arrested soon as he known to the victim. SAPS is warning and appealing to the women not to go the bushy areas and forests alone.
