Policeman, paramedic gunned down in PE

Update: MANHUNT LAUNCHED AFTER POLICEMAN AND PARAMEDIC GUNNED DOWN IN PORT ELIZABETH

An off duty police officer and a paramedic, believed to be his friend, were shot and killed in New Brighton on Wednesday night.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, said the 39-year-old police sergeant from the Mount Road police station had been visiting the paramedic, also 39, in New Brighton, when the incident happened 

While details remain sketchy, it is believed that an unknown number of assailants fired shots at them while they were standing outside the latter’s residence.

"The police officer died on the scene and the paramedic passed away on his way to hospital," she said.

It remains unknown as to the motive for the attack.
