Port Elizabeth abalone wars: another R20 000 abalone seizure

AUGUST 27, 2015

Four Port Elizabeth men are expected to appear in court soon after they were arrested at a house in the city's Sherwood suburb with perlemoen, also called abalone, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the suspected abalone poachers initially tried to flee the scene by jumping over the back wall of the house, but were later arrested after police conducted a search of the surrounding bushes.

Police seized about 30 kilogrammes of abalone at the property, worth an estimated R20 000.

A vehicle believed to be used in the poaching was also seized.
