Port Elizabeth doctor sentenced for fraud

AUGUST 21, 2015

The Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court  on Friday fined a local doctor, Doctor Bongani Nqini, R40 000 or two years in jail after it convicted him of fraud and attempted fraud. Half of the sentence was suspended for a period of five years.

Dr Nqini, who has a practice in Malcolmson Street, Zwide, was arrested during a sting operation, when an undercover police woman obtained a backdated medical certificate from him without being examined.

He later submitted the false claim, in the amount of R211.30, to the police medical aid scheme, Polmed, which was later rejected.

Nqini previously pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the court in December 2011.
