Port Elizabeth gangster convicted of two 2013 fatal shootings

AUGUST 6, 2016

A 28 year-old Port Elizabeth gangster was convicted on Friday on two charges of murder, unlawful possession of firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition by the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court following a murder that happened three years ago.

According to police, on 12 July 2013, two men were shot in an open field in Bethelsdorp when three suspects alighted from a minibus and started shooting at them.

Ivan MacDonald died on the scene while Randy Nel died a few days later in hospital.

A few minutes after the incident, two suspects were arrested by police in another park in Bethelsdorp - but not without incident. When police chased after them, they fired at them.

While Preston Baadtjies, of the Dustlifes, awaits his sentencing on Monday, his alleged accomplice Vuyani Kondile has since died.
