Port Elizabeth police appeal for leads after teen is gunned down

AUGUST 30, 2016

The gang task team set up to counter gang-related activities in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas has appealed communities in that area to speak out against crime and criminals.

The call comes after police, conducting Operation Lockdown duties in the area, were called to scene where a 19 year-old man was shot dead by two gunmen outside 43 Jeneker Street, Arcadia, on Monday night.

The two suspects, whose faces were covered, then ran away from the scene.

"Anyone with information should speak out by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111 - you may remain anonymous, the call centre operators do not even see your phone number," Port Elizabeth police said.

"You can also phone the Gang Task Team Hotline 079 398 6583. Give tipoffs on this murder and other crimes, including drug dealing and the unlawful possession of guns. Do the right thing!"

Operation Lockdown is focused on making the Northern Areas safer and ridding the neighbourhoods of gang-related violence and crime.
