Port Elizabeth police continue manhunt for gang of robbers

AUGUST 28, 2015

Port Elizabeth police are continuing the hunt for five armed robbers after a policeman was on Thursday wounded in a shoot-out with the gang in KwaDwesi. The gang of nine had robbed a spaza shop in Sanctor in Port Elizabeth's northern areas when a chase ensued.

The robbers lost control of their vehicle, a Toyota Quantum, and crashed it into a wall. Four men jumped out of the vehicle and two of them, who were armed, opened fire, wounding a policeman in the arm.

Police fired back and managed to arrest four suspects.

Five others managed to escape.

Goods and cash stolen from the Ethiopian spaza shop owner were recovered.

Those arrested are due to appear in court soon.
